Well, here it is. For what it’s worth the tabloids weren’t too far off the mark. With the exception of Sokokurai, who I feel really bad for, although I a kind of happy to see a certain Henka-queen go. 23 have been asked to retire, and if they don’t do so by April 5th, they will be expelled without any pension.
Personally I think this is a classic example of the kyokai throwing a few sacrificial lambs to the wolves, knowing damn well that the wolves will be back in a few months. I’m fairly sure that the kyokai prepped the rikishi before they went in for their interviews. Probably something along the lines of “keep the popular and higher ranked rikishi out of this.” I’m also sure that if the committee had really probed into this with moderate effort, then the list below would have been much larger. I feel bad for the guys on this list, as I’m fairly sure there is at least one guy on there that didn’t do anything, but c’est la vie. Here they are:
Kaihou (Tanigawa Oyakata) as well.
2 year suspension:
Ex-Kasuganishiki- has asked to retire
Chiyohakuhou- retirement papers accepted.
Enatsukasa- will retire.
(The last three demoted to jun- toshiyori for three years)
